The 9th Nuit émergente

Opening night at La Nuit émergente is an impressive double bill of polished contemporary songcraft. Sudbury’s own McLean, followed by Étienne Fletcher, who hails from Saskatchewan, are both masters of musical ambiance, with richly modulated compositions that create moments to be inhabited. McLean delivers an impressive performance with just a classical guitar and a backing singer. Fletcher’s four-piece outfit responds with something heftier. Their concert event will take you places.

In addition to this show, there will be performances by Aurel, artist in residence at La Slague and Philippe Mathieu, who will launch his album, “Salut Philippe”.

Make sure to come early, as we will have “AGNEAU BINGO”, a bingo game loosely inspired by Sudbury’s very own “Porketta Bingo” starting at 5 PM in the Bistro! However, instead of winning porketta, you’ll be able to take home some lamb, caribbean-style! The game will be animated by DJ Ice Man, a local DJ who promises rich and diverse musical discoveries!
Access to this activity is free, however playing cards will have to be purchased at the event in order to play.

Also make sure to drop by the Librarie-Boutique to check out Project K, an artistic residence based on the works of Jack Kerouac.

The creation of this year's poster artwork

The visual for this edition was conceptualized by a group of high school students participating in the promotional component of the Radio-Chaud contest presented by the Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord. The students wanted to create a visual that combined a mythical viral Internet creature on a Sudbury-centric Stranger Things-inspired backdrop.

The final result is a monster silhouette inspired by Siren Head, a fictional being created by Canadian artist Trevor Henderson, backlit by a glowing SNO Lab neutrino detector, located 6800 feet below ground. The creative workshop and final design were led by the team at Studio123.
