Daniel Lanois is a name that deserves to be mentioned alongside the best sound experimenters of the 20th and 21st centuries.
His new show, in a trio configuration, centers on the voice as the main instrument. Daniel Lanois is there with two buddies.
Jermaine Holmes, on drums, the mighty Jim Wilson on bass, and Lanois on guitar. Their three voices blend and echo.

Music has always been present in Daniel Lanois’ life.
Family gatherings were filled with traditional songs, which gave him a living, breathing tradition of folk music roots.
As a teenager, he set up his first studio in the basement of his new family home right here in Ontario!
In the late 70’s, his reputation reached the ears of Brian Eno, who recruited him to help him with his series of albums entitled “Ambient”.
These albums, produced with talented musicians such as keyboardist Harold Budd, are legendary!
Together, Lanois and Eno integrated the musical production into the overall texture of the music. They managed to find the perfect balance between avant-garde experimentation and the simple pleasure of making sounds. A pleasure that Daniel continues to pursue in everything he does since.

Increasingly connected with the music industry, Lanois began working with megastars like U2 and Peter Gabriel. What makes Lanois’ productions so unique? This willingness to find the right approach for the right artist, constantly adapting his formula.

In 1987, Daniel Lanois began collaborating with…Bob Dylan!
During a recording session, Lanois pulls out a Roland TR-808 drum machine and uses it as a songwriting tool, kicking off the groove of the “Oh Mercy” album. This contribution makes it one of the most spectacular creative reinventions of Dylan’s career.
In addition to being a producer, Daniel Lanois creates his own music, and is comfortable playing several instruments. This range of talents is used on many of the his own albums, resulting in the signature sound he is credited with.
He continues to contribute with many stars such as Trixie Whitley and Aaron Funk (aka Venetian Snares).
Always inspired and inspiring… He is joining us at Place des Arts on May 28th at 7:30pm with his new show in a trio format. He will be performing with his two buddies, Jermaine Holmes and Jim Wilson.
