Carrefour francophone is happy to announce that its long-awaited child care centre in St. Charles is now open and that it is called Village des tout-petits (which translates as Toddler’s Village).

Located within St-Charles-Borromée elementary school in collaboration with Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario, Village des tout-petits is Carrefour francophone’s ninth child care centre in Greater Sudbury and the surrounding area.

“We love the name of our new child care centre!” says its supervisor, Samantha-Joe Laforest. “I live in St. Charles and I want my community to thrive. I love the image of a village of children within a village of adults. It’s a symbol of faith in the future, as if we’re seeing our community of tomorrow growing before our eyes.”

“It’s also a village in the sense that friends and neighbours are there to learn from one another,” adds Sara Fudge, Carrefour francophone’s director of Children’s Services. “We help each other; we form a community where everyone feels a sense of belonging. We learn to live together.”

Family age groups: an innovative formula

Village des tout-petits applies an innovative formula that allows it to accommodate 15 children from age 0 all the way to 12. In fact, it is one of the first ‘licensed family age groups’ for Francophones in the entire province. This new formula recently instituted by the government of Ontario allows authorized child care centers to provide services to a wider age range of children within one group.

Carrefour francophone’s early childhood educational programs ensure that every day brings fun new learning activities which develop children’s abilities and stimulate their curiosity. The program regularly includes high quality arts and culture activities with guest facilitators who are specialists in their fields. “We are happy to welcome Village des tout-petits within our fine school,” says Tammy Séguin, principal of St-Charles Borromée school. Our parents now have access to a Francophone day care centre that prepares children to learn and succeed when then begin to attend school.”

Parents who wish to register their children at Village des tout-petits day care centre in St. Charles should contact Samantha-Joe Laforest by email at sjlaforest@carrefour.ca or by phone at 705 898-1058.
