Sarah is a versatile student with a passion for the arts at Macdonald-Cartier High School. She chose to spend her summer earning a Coop credit at Carrefour francophone de Sudbury in order to prepare for her transition to grade 11.
Throughout the school year, Sarah stands out for her commitment and involvement in her school’s arts programs. She is a member of Groupe 17, a semester-long music program reserved for students selected by audition. Together, the group creates its own songs to take on a mini tour! She is also a member of the Draveurs theatre group. This is group is also admission is by audition, and students participate in the creation and presentation of a play at the end of the semester.
Outside of school, Sarah continues to nurture her artistic passion: she sings, plays the violin, takes Ukrainian dance classes, and is currently learning a new instrument: the guitar!
Committed, dedicated, and always in a good mood, Sarah is a young artist who brilliantly juggles her many passions. She perfectly embodies the creativity, enthusiasm, and discipline necessary to thrive in the world of arts!
Sarah was looking for a summer Coop that would allow her to showcase her artistic skills and talents. When she discovered the Carrefour francophone’s themed summer camps, offered at Place des Arts, she quickly wrote to us. Clearly, it was exactly what she was looking for.
For Sarah, it was the ideal place to meet a wonderful group of professional artists. During her Coop, she had the opportunity to get to know different artists, be mentored, follow their advice, and learn from their expertise. This magic formula nourished and enriched her artistic skills.
Through her experience at summer camps, Sarah has seen real growth in her artistic knowledge, a development that will continue to accompany her well beyond her Coop and throughout her artistic career.
Week 1: The Coop is off to a strong start!
Sarah accompanies the Tara Luz Danse company for the dance camp. Alongside the artists, she learns to collaborate and pass on her knowledge to the young participants. It was a real change of perspective to go from being a student to someone who helps teach others. The icing on the cake was that Sarah had the opportunity to take to the stage and participate in the end-of-week dance show!
Week 2: Letting your creativity run wild with LEGO Camp!
The world of LEGO was a whole new experience for Sarah, but as always, she quickly adapted. By the end of the week, she could proudly add LEGO builder to her list of skills! This camp was a great opportunity to work as a team, forge new bonds, meet other artists, and get to know the members of the Carrefour francophone team. This time, it wasn’t just about assembling bricks… it was also about making new friends.
Weeks 3 and 4: Grand Theatre Camp!
Sarah had the chance to participate in our longest and most intensive themed camp of the summer: theatre camp. At the end of the second week, she took to the stage alongside the children to present a play that was put together entirely during the camp. It was a real challenge… but just as much fun! At the same time, Sarah is also doing a Coop at the YES Theatre in Sudbury. This is the perfect opportunity for her to explore the differences between French and English theatre and to fully appreciate the richness of both worlds. Surrounded by several professional artists, she is taking note of every piece of advice and every technique to perfect her acting skills in preparation for her return to the Draveurs troupe at school. She also uses all her new knowledge to better support the children throughout the camp, enriching their experience as much as her own.
To sum up Sarah’s experience, her favourite moments were being able to lead the children, share her skills and knowledge with them, and set an example. In return, she also learned a lot from the teams and children around her!
Another highlight was all the networking she was able to do over the past few weeks: encounters that will undoubtedly serve her well in her future professional life. She also really enjoyed working in an artistic environment, surrounded by professional artists.
A little bonus: to get to Place des Arts each day, Sarah had to learn how to use public transportation. This new habit allowed her to gain some independence.
Thanks to her summer Coop at Carrefour francophone, Sarah experienced great personal growth and a wonderful adventure filled with joy!
